Hello friends and welcome to my first post! I thought it would be fitting for my first food post to be from my hometown of Lakeland FL. To everyone who hasn't had the pleasure of basking in this quaint atmosphere, let me introduce you to The Poor Porker.

Hidden away speak-easy style, in the downtown area of Lakeland, sits a chic outdoor cafe that incites the senses. When one walks in you are automatically taken away to a magical place that stops you dead in your tracks; think desert-tea party-chic. The scent of fresh beignets and campfire roasted coffee hangs in the air. All of a sudden you get really excited about how cute everything is and all the little intimate nooks that you and your party can sit and dine in. The food and non-alcoholic beverages are served out of an old camper-turned food truck. They also serve glass bottled sodas that are in an old school cooler complete with a bottle opener. Opposite of the food truck is an open air bar and sitting area, where on weekends they have live music. This place is very kid friendly (there is a teepee that i love to sit in) and has a backyard barbq feel since the majority of the seating is out in the open.

Now to the most important part: THE BEIGNETS! Anyone who has ever had a beignet will be the first to tell you how amazing these little fried french desserts are but if you haven't, let me describe what the boyfriend would call "the mad max of desserts". They are warn, (not so) little air filled pillows of heaven adorned with delicious toppings or with simple powdered sugar, and the ones here at The Poor Porker are no exception.
Now, The Poor Porker doesn't have a big menu, actually the most i have ever seen on their menu is about 4 or 5 different types of beignets. Really its the combination of toppings on the beignets that change. Each order comes with three beignets (aka pillows of heaven) and is the perfect amount for one person in the mood for dessert or a gooey snack for two. **COUGH COUGH DATE NIGHT COUGH COUGH**
Now, to be honest when i dragged my two friends all the way to Lakeland to try The Poor Porker i wasn't sure if i was going to blog about this... or even start my blog. Sooooo i do not have a picture of the infamous beignets that i have been gushing about. BUT i do have a picture of my beignets from The Poor Porker from a previous time. as you can see from this wonderful instagram photo they are a perfect golden color and the portions are a good size.

The price here merits one $ sign as the most expensive desert i have seen is about $7. I highly recommend The Poor Porker if you are passing through Lakeland or better yet, make it a road trip!
I know im always craving these bad boys! So make the trip, trust me its worth it!
